Sinua

marble side table

Form held mid-becoming. The Sinua is carved from a single block — its silhouette tapering from a narrow base into a wider, gently spreading top, as though the stone had been caught in the act of expanding outward from the earth.

The Tapered Form

Stone Caught in Transition

The Sinua derives its name from metamorphosis — but the transformation it depicts is not completed. The narrow base suggests compression, restraint, rootedness. The spreading top suggests release, expansion, arrival. Between these two states, the stone tapers continuously, each millimetre a record of the hand-honing that brought this form out of the block. It is a piece that appears to be becoming rather than being.

Surface & Silence

A Surface that Breathes

The top of the Sinua is circular — a departure from the rectilinear logic of most furniture. It softens the geometry of a room without competing with the architecture. Hand-honed to a matte finish, the surface catches and distributes light without reflection, giving the marble an almost mineral quietness. At its widest point, the top provides a generous, useful surface; at its narrowest, the base seems barely to touch the floor.

Stone Selection

Shown here in Verde Alpi. The Sinua is available in a curated selection of natural stones. The circular top means the veining reads differently from every angle — an important consideration when choosing your stone. Quieter, more diffuse stones emphasise the form's geometry; more dramatic stones animate the surface with movement. Contact us to discuss your stone.

The Sinua does not stand still. Its taper implies a direction — upward, outward — as though the stone were still in the act of becoming. We simply carved the moment at which it was most itself.

Yes. The Sinua is entirely monolithic — the circular top, the tapering shaft, and the narrow base are all one continuous piece of stone with no joints, adhesives, or hidden supports. The taper is achieved through progressive hand-honing: the block is progressively worked from a cylinder into the final form, and the marble's own structure determines where the taper can be taken. Each Sinua is therefore genuinely unique.

The Sinua is finished in a hand-honed matte as standard. This finish is particularly appropriate for the circular top — it reads the veining as texture rather than reflection, and the matte surface is more forgiving in daily use. A polished finish is available on request, though we generally advise against it for the Sinua: the form is more expressive in matte, where the surface contributes to the sense of material weight rather than competing with it through reflection.

Yes, within reasonable limits. The height can be adjusted between approximately 55 and 75 cm; the top diameter between 35 and 50 cm. The proportional relationship between the top, shaft, and base is carefully considered and significant departures from the design ratios affect the character of the piece. All bespoke commissions are discussed during the inquiry process.

The Sinua is transported in a custom-designed crate built for the specific dimensions of each piece. Delivery is white-glove — our specialist logistics partners place the piece on site and carry out a final inspection. We do not use standard courier services for any marble piece; all logistics are co-ordinated by Tiba Stone to ensure the piece arrives in perfect condition.
