Compliments Collection

Flint

bespoke marble accent

Flint is named for the oldest worked stone — the one that first held an edge, that first caught fire. A small marble object, dark and precise, made to rest on a surface and say nothing more than: here. This was made by hand. This is real.

The Object

Ancient in Memory, Precise in Making

The name flint carries weight — the first worked material, the thing that made fire possible, the object that moved from the hand of its maker directly into use. This Flint borrows that directness. Set on a shelf, a desk, a windowsill, it does not announce itself. It simply exists — cool to the touch, particular in its veining, absolutely resolved.

Darkness as a Design Choice

Where the Compliments Collection's other pieces tend toward the light, Flint moves the other way. Its dark stone holds light differently — absorbing some, returning the rest transformed. In a pale interior, it becomes a point of stillness. Alongside other objects on a surface, it provides the anchor. The Compliments Collection was always about contrast: material against air, weight against line. Flint is that principle made singular.

Stone & Surface

Flint is offered in Nero Marquina, Emperador Dark, and Grigio Carnico. Each stone gives the form a different quality of dark — the absolute depth of Nero, the warm brown current of Emperador, the silver-veined grey of Carnico. At this scale, the choice of stone is everything: it determines not just colour but mood, character, and how the piece holds its place in a room.

Flint is a surface object — a presence, not a vessel. It functions as a paperweight, a decorative anchor, or simply an object to rest on a desk, shelf, or bedside surface. Its weight and dark stone give it a grounding quality in any arrangement. A full stone care guide is included with every piece.

Dark stones like Nero Marquina and Emperador show water marks more readily than lighter marbles. We recommend wiping with a dry microfibre cloth and avoiding acidic cleaners entirely. The honed finish is durable and low-maintenance. We include a comprehensive care guide with every Flint, tailored to the specific stone selected.

Yes. Flint is available in bespoke dimensions on request — larger, smaller, elongated, or in grouped configurations of two or three pieces. We work frequently with interior designers to commission curated surface arrangements. Bespoke commissions begin with a slab consultation and are among our most considered pieces.

Yes — no two pieces of natural stone are identical. At Flint's scale, the veining is especially personal. Before cutting, we photograph the available slab sections and share them with you so you can select the particular character of your piece. In dark stones, veining can be the difference between something austere and something quietly alive.
